Weekly Updates

Week Ending 28-Jul - 2012

Upcoming Events

The club's August Movie (Aug 15th, 6PM to 9PM, Seabreeze Rec Center) will be Das Boot:  The Battle of The Atlantic, the longest continuous engagement of the war, would ultimately determine the success or failure of the Allies in Europe.  By 1942, the tide was turning in favor of the Allies.  Allied losses were still large, but improved ships, methods and technology and the US entrance into the war was beginning to show and German U-Boats have begun to take heavy losses. "Das Boot" (The Boat), one of the best movies about WWII and the best submarine film ever, is the story of one such U-Boat crew, with the film examining how these submariners maintained their professionalism as soldiers, attempted to accomplish impossible missions, while all the time attempting to understand and obey the ideology of the government under which they served.

The club's August meeting (July 22nd, 3PM to 5PM, Colony Cottage Rec Center) will continue our biography series with a session focused on Winston Churchill, one of the most influential and interesting men of the 20th Century

Local Museums
